This week's bench was mostly customer work. Three commissions moved through print and prime, a Batman head swap finally got its paint, and one of my bat dioramas landed in the shop. Here is what is actually sitting in front of me right now.
Three Head Sculpts, Fresh Off Primer
These are three head sculpts partway through a customer order. They just came out of primer, so the grey coat you see is there to catch any print lines before paint goes on. The hair is sculpted long and flowing on all three, and they are sitting on my paint station waiting for their turn under the airbrush.
A Teddy Bear Waiting on Paint
This teddy bear is further along in the same kind of order, primed grey with its aviator goggles and satchel already showing clean detail. Prime is where I catch anything that needs a second pass of sanding before color goes down, and this one is close to ready.
Batman Head Swap, Painted and Compared
This is a Batman head sculpt by orubus that I painted and swapped onto a cowl. I tried two versions of the eyes, one with painted lenses and one with a solid white eye variant, to see which read better under light. I also set it next to a McFarlane figure's stock head for a side by side, since comparing a custom paint job against a mass produced one is the fastest way to tell if the work is actually holding up.
Ring Holder Prints, Straight Off the Plate
These are ring holder prints for a customer, shaped like a jello mold and pulled straight off the plate in PLA. Hopefully the proposal goes well!
Bat Diorama, Listed and Ready
This is my bat swarm diorama set piece, finished and now listed in the shop. It works as a backdrop for 1/12 and 1/10 scale figures, so your Batman is not just standing on a shelf, he is standing in a scene. You can grab it here: 3D Printed Bat Swarm Diorama Set Piece on Etsy.
Up Next: An Arkillo Head Sculpt
A new customer commission just landed on the bench, and it is the biggest sculpt in the queue right now. I am modeling Arkillo, the Sinestro Corps heavy, as a custom head sculpt built from scratch off the original comic reference.
All teeth, heavy brow, and a lot of skin texture to get right. That last part is where most of the work goes. Modeling starts this week, and progress shots will be in next week's WIP Wednesday.
