The movie has now led the box office for six straight weekends and pushed its worldwide total past 2.4 billion dollars, putting it behind only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame globally. Fans have been calling this the strongest Spider-Man outing in years, and the numbers back that up. Expect Sony to lean hard into a sequel announcement once the victory lap slows down.
Avengers: Doomsday Drops New Doctor Doom Footage Tied to an Endgame Theatrical Return
Marvel used D23 to remind everyone why Avengers: Doomsday is the biggest ticket of the winter. DC Studios just eased some traffic on its own release calendar. Per SuperHeroHype, Clayface has moved from September 11 to October 23, giving Supergirl more breathing room after its June debut. The runtime is reportedly locking in around 105 minutes, and early test screening reactions describe it less as a typical superhero spectacle and more as a dark character study, which lines up with James Gunn's promise that this one leans into body horror. The extra weeks also give the marketing team more room to build buzz before the DCU's next theatrical swing.
James Gunn Teases a Different Take on an Iconic DC Villain and a Peacemaker Character's DCU Return
James Gunn is not shy about breaking from the comics. Per GamesRadar, Gunn said the DCU is not a Xerox of DC Comics, teasing a reinterpretation of a major DC villain that will surprise longtime readers. He also confirmed a fan-favorite Peacemaker character is sticking around the DCU even without confirmed Peacemaker season 3 news yet, which SuperHeroHype covered as a sign the show's world keeps expanding sideways into other projects. Ahsoka Season 2 Locks In a January 2027 Disney Plus Date With Thrawn Looming
Star Wars fans finally have a date. Dave Filoni brought Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen on stage at D23 to debut the season 2 teaser and confirm Ahsoka returns to Disney Plus on January 20, 2027, for an eight episode run. Per StarWars.com, the new season follows Ahsoka and Sabine Wren as they try to find their way home from beyond the known galaxy, with Grand Admiral Thrawn's presence raising the stakes well past what season 1 set up. The Honda Center crowd reaction to the teaser was reportedly one of the loudest of the whole D23 weekend, so expectations are high heading into the new year.
