Press Play: Avengers Doomsday's Sandra Huller Reveal Headlines a Huge Marvel and DC Week

NYCC week delivered on every front this time. Marvel dropped a genuinely surprising casting reveal for Avengers Doomsday, Spider-Man Brand New Day hit a box office milestone most franchises never sniff, and DC's Clayface closed out its marketing with a trailer that looks ready to earn its R rating. Here is everything fans are talking about this week.

Avengers Doomsday Just Got a Lot Stranger With Sandra Huller Joining the Cast

Avengers Doomsday Just Got a Lot Stranger With Sandra Huller Joining the Cast

Avengers Doomsday just picked up one of its most unexpected names yet. Per World of Reel, acclaimed Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest star Sandra Huller is in the film, reportedly playing a character referred to only as the witch, with the casting surfacing through a stunt performer's credits rather than an official Marvel reveal. It landed the same week Sebastian Stan told Decider that returning as Bucky Barnes for this one is probably heartbreaking, adding we will see who makes it to the next level. Between an arthouse powerhouse joining the MCU and Marvel's own stars hinting at major character stakes, Doomsday keeps giving fans more to theorize about before its December 18 release.

Spider-Man Brand New Day Swings to Digital After a Record $2.5 Billion Run

Spider-Man Brand New Day Swings to Digital After a Record $2.5 Billion Run

Spider-Man Brand New Day is officially available to rent or buy at home, with Collider confirming digital availability started October 6 across Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play Movies. The timing caps off an absurd theatrical run. Since its July 31 debut, the film has pulled in roughly 2.5 billion dollars worldwide, making it the highest grossing film of the year and the third highest grossing movie ever behind only Avatar and Avengers Endgame. A physical 4K and Blu-ray release follows in November, so anyone who missed it in theaters now has zero excuses.

Clayface Final Trailer Shows Tom Rhys Harries' Full Transformation Before October 23

Clayface Final Trailer Shows Tom Rhys Harries' Full Transformation Before October 23

DC Studios saved some of the creepiest footage for last. The final Clayface trailer follows Matt Hagen, played by Tom Rhys Harries, as a former street kid turned Hollywood star whose face is destroyed by a crime boss and who undergoes an experimental treatment to fix it, only for the side effects to slowly turn him into something monstrous. Naomi Ackie's Dr. Caitlin Bates warns him he has to learn to control it, which is never a good sign in a horror movie. As DC Studios' first real horror swing under James Gunn, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, Clayface arrives in theaters October 23 carrying an R rating and a lot of curiosity about how far it is willing to go.

Marvel Unveils Zodiac, a New Spy Thriller Series Heading to Disney Plus

Marvel Unveils Zodiac, a New Spy Thriller Series Heading to Disney Plus

Marvel Television used its NYCC 2026 panel to reveal Zodiac, a new live action series described by Marvel's head of television and animation Brad Winderbaum as a spy thriller. Casting has not been announced, but the show is expected to begin filming in London in spring 2027 ahead of a 2028 premiere on Disney Plus. In the comics, Zodiac is a shadowy crime organization built around members who take on astrological sign identities, which leaves the door wide open for Marvel to build an entirely new corner of its universe around espionage instead of capes. Early days, but it is already one of the more intriguing swings announced this NYCC.
